How to disable comments in WordPress

    Guide
    by Kishan Kotecha Partnership Manager

Comments can be a great way to encourage engagement with your website, however, a lot of comments can be negative, promotional, or spam. For these reasons, you might want to disable comments. Here’s how:

How to blanket disable comments on all future posts

If you want to disable comments on all posts across your website, you can do so via Settings> Discussion from your admin panel, and uncheck the box that says ‘allow people to post comments on new articles’. If you want to then allow comments on some specific posts, you can do so by following the below process.

How to disable comments on specific posts

WordPress allows you to disable comments on specific posts or pages. Go to the specific page or post that you want to change the comment settings on. Click onto the ‘Documents’ tab, scroll down to ‘Discussion’ , and you will find a check box for ‘Allow Comments’ which you can then check or uncheck accordingly.

How to disable comments in bulk

You can edit the comment settings on numerous posts at once by using WordPress’ ‘bulk edit’ feature. Just go to Posts> All Posts, then select the ones that you want to change and click ‘Edit’ from the ‘Bulk Actions’ drop down menu at the top. Here, you will see options to change the comment settings as well as categories, tags, author and more. Once you have made the changes that you want, make sure to click ‘Update’ and you are done!

There are also a number of other comment settings that you can access and change. Find these under Settings > Discussion. Here you can automatically close comments on posts when it’s been X amount of time since publishing, you can enable or disable thread comments, you can set the order of comments, and more.
