    Which CMS should you be using in 2022?

    Your content management system (CMS) can make or break your website, as we’ve often talked about with regard to Magento, WordPress and HubSpot. Whether you’re starting out in business or are looking to migrate in 2022, you’ll need to know which are the best platforms to be using. Here’s a quick rundown of the main options.

    CMSes have been around for more than 20 years now, and it’s fair to say that in that time, the wheat has been thoroughly separated from the chaff. In 2022, there’s no way a clunky, unscalable and badly maintained CMS could even get a foothold in the ecosystem, let alone thrive. Several key platforms now dominate, and they continue to improve, in great part thanks to the hive mind of users and developers constantly making new plugins, themes and fixes for them.

    If there’s a downside, it’s that it is now almost impossible for a newcomer to enter the marketplace without enormous financial backing and an enthusiastic following, but how that might be harming the online world is a debate for another day. Equally, there isn’t much mass disgruntlement against the main platforms – they are generally seen as forces for good, which is remarkable in itself, considering how certain other tech giants have attracted criticism over the past few years.

    So which CMS should you choose in 2022? We think it comes down to three main options.

    WordPress

    This is the platform that’s trusted by most companies around the world, from global names to local businesses reaching out to the community. More or less anyone can set up a basic site in minutes, but if you want to get complex and add in some advanced functionality, there are developers and plugin providers who can easily add in the extra things you want. And if it’s eCommerce you’re interested in, WooCommerce is right up there with the best, largely because it benefits from the advantages of having a WordPress foundation.

    Magento

    For a purely eCommerce site, especially one that you plan to grow and stock up with thousands of products, it would be hard to recommend anything but Magento. It has been designed from the ground up with eCommerce in mind, and comes with a massive global community so you’re never far from assistance or a qualified Magento developer to make your site run like clockwork. Magento 2 is now five years old, and built on the success of the original platform to create something that genuinely revolutionised eCommerce.

    HubSpot

    Finally, there’s HubSpot. It’s a little different in that its main attraction is probably its customer relationship management (CRM) capability, which is vital for growing your business and ensuring your customers are happy, in the loop and visible for new marketing opportunities. The suite does come with its own CMS, however, and we have to say, it’s a pretty good one. It’s easy to pick up for anyone who has used WordPress before, but best of all it integrates seamlessly with the CRM, which is its main advantage.

    We think these three options are the best you can choose for the foreseeable future. WordPress is perfect for general information websites, but WooCommerce makes it great for selling online. Magento is a turbocharged selling machine. And HubSpot lets you build a decent website around your customer relationship operation, which is always a great way of making sales. The choice is really down to where the focus of your business is.
