7 steps to spring clean your website

    Guide
    by Kishan Kotecha Partnership Manager

Spring cleaning isn’t just for the home, your website needs attention too. Here are 7 easy steps to follow to spruce up your site.

    Update authors & team members

Make sure that the team members and authors that you feature on your site are all current employees – remove ex employees, add new team members, and make sure that the photos you use are consistent and of high quality.

It is also important than any posts that have been authored by ex employees get taken over by another author once that employee has been deleted rather than left blank.

    Update policies

It’s easy to miss the policy page when you’re making content updates. Check that your company’s practices are accurately presented and that any contact details present in your policies are correct.

    Check links

It can be frustrating for visitors to be presented with 404 errors when they are trying to navigate to something they want so check that all of your links work.

You can check for broken links on WordPress using this plugin and fix them or create redirects.

Make sure contact info is correct

If someone is looking to contact you from your website, chances are that they are pretty interested in your services. Failing to keep up-to-date contact details is effectively throwing away leads by removing a channel for them to come through.

    Keep it consistent

If you update details anywhere, make sure to double check the entire website. For example, if you are adding a new office location, ensure that it is present and correct on all areas of the website including the home page, contact page, footer, careers page, and anywhere else you think that may mention it.

    Update any directories

Make sure that any directory listing your business has up-to-date and correct details. Google My Business is one that often gets forgotten but it is pretty prominent to anyone that searches for your company on Google. Try searching your business on a private browsing window and see what others see.

    Renew domain names

Domain registrations are only valid for a set period of time and they do expire so keep an eye out. If you are concerned that you won’t remember to renew, you can set these up to auto-renew.
