5 reasons it might be time for a website redesign

Are you considering whether it’s time for a new website? We’ve made it easy for you with 5 common reasons it might be the right time.

    It’s outdated

Design trends are constantly evolving (just take a look at some to watch out for in 2019 here), so you need to be aware of what is current in order to not appear out of date. 46% of people state that a website’s design was their primary variable on whether or not a site (and the company) could be trusted.

There’s been a change of purpose

It might be that your website doesn’t represent your company well anymore. Has your business evolved since your last website update? Have you got new services, new priorities, new target markets? If so, it’s likely time for a website redesign.

Visitors should be able to gauge what you do/offer from your website but it can be hard to assess whether yours achieves this yourself. Consider asking people unfamiliar with your business/brand what they think your company does based on looking at your website and make changes accordingly.

    It’s not performing

How is your bounce rate looking? Are your page views a little low? Is the average time spent per visitor worryingly short? If you are managing to direct traffic to your website but you aren’t getting the leads then, chances are, there’s something wrong with your website itself – whether the design, content or user experience.

Check how well you are ranking in Google as well; the search engine is known for penalising websites for various reasons and if yours is not in-line with current SEO best practices, you can find your site slipping to the bottom.

    It’s difficult to navigate

Are visitors successfully navigating through the site? If your page views are disproportionately high on landing pages and low on other pages, it might be that users can’t find what they are looking for and you need to re-think your navigation. People expect efficient experiences from websites and if your menu is confusing or visitors can’t find what they are looking for quickly then they will likely leave and look elsewhere.

    It’s not mobile-friendly

Optimising for mobile is not only important for visitors, but for search engines too. Google imposes penalties on websites that don’t work well on mobile devices and you can find your rankings suffering as a result. 52% of website traffic now comes from mobile devices so it is absolutely essential that your website is mobile-friendly and responsive.
